DIY Mudjacking
If you’re like many people, you’ve looked at problem around your house and thought “I can fix that myself!” Now, while that may be true for many cases, DIY mudjacking may not be the most economical of those home repairs to take on yourself. Here’s why hiring an experienced contractor is a must for your mudjacking needs.
Concrete jacking, to be done properly, requires a knowledge of what is causing the slab to sink, and what needs to be done to repair it. Mudjacking, while an excellent solution to most sinking and cracked concrete slabs, is not always the way to go. If the slab is structurally damaged, or is part of a damaged foundation, then concrete jacking, especially DIY concrete jacking, is not the proper solution. Watching videos online about DIY concrete leveling isn’t going to give you the experience needed to know if it is the right approach for you. You may want to learn how to raise a concrete slab yourself, but some types of cracks may not need mudjacking at all! In some cases, simple sealing of a crack can do the trick.
So what if you’ve been told my a contractor that slabjacking is the solution to your problem? Do it yourself mudjacking also requires equipment which most homeowners don’t just have sitting out in their garage. And along with that equipment is the knowledge needed to operate it safely and effectively.
DIY concrete raising can also end up costing you more than having a professional do it correctly the first time around. It is very easy to end up with the wrong amount of slurry, or the wrong consistency of slurry for your job. But say you’re insistent on do it yourself concrete leveling, and get the job wrong? You’ve now already paid once to do it yourself, as well as spent hours of your time, but now you have to hire someone to come correct the job that would have been done well the first time around. Or, the do it yourself slabjacking job looks good, but the structural integrity of the slab is now compromised and it ends up crumbling in place. These are all very real possibilities.
Don’t risk a DIY mudjacking job when you can hire affordable professionals to get the job done right.
