Sheboygan Concrete Leveling FAQ
I got a sidewalk notice from the City of Sheboygan. What are my options?
The city's Sidewalk Replacement Program inspects one of ten areas each year and notifies owners about cracked, raised or sunken slabs. Owners can use the city's contractor or hire their own contractor. If your slabs are sunken but in one piece, ask the city whether lifting them back into line meets the requirement, then call us for a price before the deadline on your notice.
Does the city tree credit apply if I hire my own contractor?
According to the city, the credit for damage from city tree roots applies when you use the city's contractor, not when you hire your own. Weigh that against the price. Lifting is often much cheaper than replacement, but only you can compare the numbers for your notice.
Why does concrete sink so much in Sheboygan?
The soil here is mostly clayey glacial till and lake sediment, which holds water and drains slowly. Wet clay softens, dry clay shrinks, and lake effect winters bring a lot of freeze and thaw. Older homes have also had many decades of settling.
Can you lift sunken front steps?
Yes, if the steps are solid. We lift them back toward the house and fill the void underneath so they stop tipping. If the steps are crumbling or badly cracked, we will tell you when replacement is the better choice.
Is foam lifting or mudjacking better for my concrete?
Both raise concrete by pumping material underneath it. Polyurethane foam is light, needs smaller holes and cures in minutes, so it suits most driveways, walks and garage floors on clay soil. Traditional mudjacking still makes sense on some larger slabs. We look at the slab and the soil and tell you which one we would use and why.
How soon can I use the walk after it is lifted?
With foam, you can usually walk on it right away and drive on a driveway the same day. Mudjacking takes a little longer to set. We tell you exactly when it is ready before we leave.
Do you serve the rest of Sheboygan County?
Yes. We work in Sheboygan Falls, Kohler, Oostburg, Cedar Grove and the rest of Sheboygan County, plus Ozaukee, Washington, Waukesha and Milwaukee Counties.
